What is Life or Spiritual Coaching?

Life or Spiritual Coaching is about asking questions to help people come up with their own answers. In coaching we establish an outcome or goal the client is trying to reach, ask powerful questions, develop a plan work through blocks that are in the way, and hold the client accountable to achieve that goal or outcome.

Coaching is about empowering the client to move forward in their life. Coaching is not advising or consulting. A coach may occasionally give advice or make suggestions, but it is not the primary role of a coach.

Consulting and Advising

Many people give advice in their personal and professional relationships. Consulting and Advising is telling the person what to do versus helping them find answers to their own questions.

Coaches can offer a separate service to their clients providing consulting on a topic they have expertise in (i.e. business consulting, marketing, nutritional consulting etc.), but there needs to be one primary role between Coach and client to avoid confusion.

The Advantage of Coaching vs. Consulting

Coaching has been known to be more highly effective in helping people achieve their goals and get positive results. People who come up with their own answers are far more likely to take action and move forward then those who are being told what to do.

Many corporations now hire coaches instead of consultants because they find the results to be far more effective.

Your Training

You are being trained as a Coach according to the standards set forth by the International Coach Federation. By the end of the training in order to be certified you must demonstrate coaching skills that meet ICF standards. Once you leave the training you are free to use the skills and tools in whatever way you choose as well as other skills you already possess.

I understand the difference between coaching, consulting, and advising. I also understand that I must demonstrate the coaching skills set forth by the ICF to be certified by Life Purpose Institute.
