ICF Mentoring

What Is ICF Mentoring?

ICF mentoring, also called mentor coaching, is a required part of earning or renewing a credential with the International Coaching Federation. It focuses on how a coach applies the ICF Core Competencies in real coaching sessions, not on learning new techniques. The goal is professional growth through reflection and feedback.

Who Is ICF Mentor Coaching For?

ICF mentor coaching is for coaches who are pursuing an ICF credential, renewing an existing credential, or preparing for an ICF performance evaluation. It is also helpful for coaches who want experienced feedback on their coaching presence and competency alignment.

Why Is ICF Mentor Coaching Required?

The International Coaching Federation requires mentor coaching to ensure coaches meet professional standards in practice, not just in training. Mentor coaching provides structured feedback and reflection so coaches can demonstrate competency, ethical awareness, and readiness for credentialing or renewal.

ICF Mentor Coaching and the Credentialing Path

Mentoring is more than an International Coaching Federation requirement; it’s an opportunity to refine your skills, deepen your self-awareness, and continue evolving as a professional coach. It’s a time to reflect on how you coach, reconnect with the ICF Core Competencies, and intentionally strengthen the quality of your presence and impact with clients. Whether you are preparing to apply for your first ICF credential through the Portfolio Path as part of your life coach certification journey or completing mentor coaching for your credential renewal, this stage invites intentional reflection, growth, and refinement of your coaching practice.

Our ICF Mentor Coaching program is designed for two types of coaches:

  • Those who are not yet ICF credentialed and are completing mentor coaching as part of their life coach certification and Portfolio Path application.
  • Coaches who are already credentialed and completing mentor coaching for ICF renewal.

These mentoring programs support ACC and PCC level coaches in meeting International Coaching Federation mentor coaching requirements while strengthening competency alignment, ethical application, and coaching confidence. Through a combination of group mentor coaching and individualized feedback, coaches receive structured guidance to refine their coaching presence and move through the credentialing or renewal process with clarity and confidence.
