As life coaches, setting goals is part of our DNA. The New Year is the perfect opportunity to be the new you and set life coaching goals for 2026. Life coaches are great at helping clients set goals and work towards them, supporting them along the way. Sometimes, life coaches struggle more with their own goals than with supporting their clients as they reach theirs. Don’t let this year be a repeat; focus on making 2026 the year your goals become a reality. Setting goals in the new year feels like having a blank slate to work from. It can be empowering to imagine what the next 12 months will look like. Setting realistic and achievable goals is the key this year. Preparation is key, and instead of riding it out this year and potentially being right here again next year, make this one count!
Making Space for Growth
In life coaching, we can offer our clients the best advice. Encouraging clients to create space for themselves is critical for self-growth, whether physical or headspace. The feeling of a lack of space stems from letting others’ priorities take over one’s own needs, leaving people feeling choked for space and not having enough time for themselves. Sometimes, growth can be painful, especially when we may appear more selfish. However, life coaches are better coaches for others when they are finding their own space for personal growth too!
Personal Space in the Physical
Creating physical space can be challenging if you live with others, especially busy families! However, there are steps life coaches can take to create more space. This year, designate a space in your home for journaling, sipping coffee, or meditating. Even a corner with a comfy chair can be just the space you need. Set up boundaries to respect that space so it does not become the laundry chair or the family pet’s favorite spot. Removing clutter can also free up space and give mental clarity. Adding plants is also known to elevate mood and mindset!
Making Space in Our Minds
The concept of creating psychological space requires a bit more thought for life coaches. Breathing, meditating, and taking a walk are common ways many life coaches create space in their heads. Set your watch, your phone, or leave yourself a note to get up and take a break to give your mind a boost and create more space. Our minds must rest to process all we take in, especially for life coaches who are focused on helping clients do the same! Don’t lose sight of the fact that you must be your best self to help others the best you can!
Tangible Ways to Create Head Space
Let’s start by setting some boundaries. Over the course of a year, we tend to loosen our boundaries, and we can quickly find ourselves sacrificing our own time for others’ needs. It is essential to protect the time we set aside for ourselves so we can reflect and ensure we are making decisions that align with our new year goals. Journaling is an excellent way to record your thoughts and ideas and to detox from social media, giving your brain a real break! Doing the things that make you feel better, like breathing exercises, being active, praying, or other activities that fill your cup, must be part of your routine so you can be the best life coach for your clients. How can we give advice we are not willing to follow ourselves?
