Spiritual Coaching: Responsibilities, Pay Rates, and Career Prospects

How Spiritual Coaches Make A Living And Are Thriving

What does a Spiritual Coach do?

A spiritual coach is someone who does Life Coaching with a spiritual perspective. A spiritual coach helps clients to integrate and apply their spirituality to their daily lives. A Spiritual Coach asks the client what they want to work on, ask powerful questions to have the client tap into their own answers, deeply listens and gives feedback on what they’ve heard, work through blocks and issues that are in their way, develop a  plan and hold them accountable for following through with that plan.

A Spiritual Coach is typically self-employed unless they work for a church or organization (which is not that common currently). The responsibilities then include seeing clients, scheduling, marketing and client outreach, maintaining client paperwork, administrative tasks such as e-mailing, client communications and doing basic bookkeeping.

How does a Spiritual Coach market themselves?

Spiritual coaches that are self-employed need to market themselves initially by offering free consultations, speeches, workshops, doing social media, getting referral sources or marketing in a way that’s most natural for the coach to do. After marketing initially most coaches get referrals from past clients which keeps their practices busy.

Spiritual coaches can work with individuals or groups as part of their practice. They can host retreats, support groups, groups around a particular topic, or groups for spiritual women, men, couples, etc.

In addition, a spiritual coach can add other services or topics to their specialty. They can add a prayer circle, teach Reiki or meditation, help those in transitions, those wanting to improve relationships, or create more vitality and wellbeing or focus a host of other services or specialized topics.

Each coach makes the practice their own. They can work as few or as many hours as they like.

What’s the pay rate for a Spiritual Coach?

Pay rates for coaching services are usually $150 an hour to start and go up from there. Coaches pick the rate they are comfortable with and are sensitive to where they live and who they are targeting.

Groups, workshop and retreat prices are all over the map. Some people do an introductory evening at $25, a weekend class for $399, an ongoing group for $799.  Some high-level coaches charge $5,000 for an online group. It is really quite variable coaches again start where they are comfortable and increase their prices over time.

The Future for Spiritual Coaching

The future of spiritual coaching is quite bright.  More and more people are interested in spirituality, want to focus on personal growth and the need to heal themselves. The pandemic greatly affected so many people who questioned why they are really here and what their lives are about. That created much more interest in spiritual coaching. Also, coaching is seen as a positive thing you can do for yourself that produces positive results. The field has been around long enough now that it is now known for these results.

More clients are paying for coaching services than ever before in history according to an International Coaching Federation global study that was conducted. The International Coaching Federation is the organization that sets the standard in the industry and does yearly global studies about the field of coaching.

Coaching is now seen as a viable profession and approach the field of spiritual coaching is not saturated as it’s still a new area of specialty that most coaches are not focused on.

It’s a wonderful time to enter the field of spiritual coaching.

Summary

In summary then, a spiritual coach sees individual clients or works with groups. They ask questions, help the client work through their blocks and life challenges. They can discuss all areas of life like a life coach would. They are usually self-employed and do various activities such as seeing clients, managing the client’s records, marketing, and doing administrative tasks.
