Do You Invest in Your Coaching Business?

Do you invest in yourself? As life coaches, we invest so much of ourselves into our clients – our time, energy, talents, resources. But when asked how much they invest in themselves, many coaches report that they rarely do. No matter the reason, it’s so important that coaches carve out the time and resources to continue to improve their skills and expand their knowledge bases to better serve their clients – and create a more fulfilling and successful career.

We can invest in ourselves in so many ways. Self care is the ultimate self-investment. Our health, our learning, our emotional and spiritual well-being are all worthy of our attention and care. While we know that these things are important to feeling good and being our best selves, so often they can be put on the backburner in lieu of other things, and most often, other people.

For prospective, new and established coaches alike, there will be times when you recognize the need to invest in your business. Although it can be exciting, making a large financial investment in your career can be scary. You wonder if it’s worth it and if you’ll get a return on your investment.

The thing is: sometimes we have to venture out of our comfort zones and take a leap when it comes to growing our businesses. It might not feel comfortable or be a surefire success, but neglecting to invest in yourself as a coach is doing yourself, and the clients you work with, a major disservice.

Why You Need to Invest in Your Coaching Business

Whether you want to scale your life coaching business or simply want to reduce stress, have more free time or focus on the parts of your job that you love, making an investment in your business can allow you to accomplish your goals. Before we get into ways you can invest in your business, let’s explore just a few of the awesome benefits.

  • Reach more people.
  • Expand your services.
  • Save yourself time.
  • Focus on tasks you love.
  • Reduce your stress.
  • Level up your skills.
  • Better serve your clients.
  • Better manage your business.

Making an investment in yourself and your business shows that you care about the work you do and the people you serve. It shows that you take your business seriously, and that is something that any potential client will value.

How to Be Confident Investing in Yourself and Your Business

It can be overwhelming to decide what to invest in with so many options available. The first step is to brainstorm all of the possibilities. Think about all of the ways you can invest in yourself. Remember, both your professional and personal well-being are strongly intertwined so you can include ideas for both on your list.

Here is a list of possible ways you can invest in yourself and your life coaching business:

  • Get your own business coach or life coach.
  • Redecorate your office or workspace.
  • Update your life coach website or marketing materials.
  • Attend a business class like accounting or marketing.
  • Hire a virtual assistant to handle routine tasks.
  • Take a professional development class.
  • Register for an art class or some other creative pursuit.
  • Sign up for fitness classes or get a personal trainer.
  • Get professional photos taken for your website.
  • Schedule a massage or other self-care service.
  • Purchase advertisements on social media to grow your reach.

The next step is to think about the items on your list and decide which ones would add the most value to you today or in the near future. Which of these things would make the biggest impact on your business and life? Which things are possible to start or accomplish right away?

Asking these questions will help you prioritize those ideas that will make the greatest impact and be most achievable. Just because you may not be able to attend a 3 ½ day live Tony Robbins event right now, doesn’t mean it’s not an investment you can make in the future. Keep a running list of the things you think would help you and your business succeed.
