Have you lost focus on your goals? Have you lost the commitment that you once had to achieving those goals? If so, you are not the only one.
Most people who have set a goal have also lost focus at one time or another. We all have many distractions that can get in the way–illnesses, vacations, family emergencies, work. These things can all cause us to lose that exciting momentum that we once had. But being temporarily distracted from a goal does not mean that you need to give up on that goal altogether.
When you find that there has been distance created between you and what you have set out to achieve, just know that it’s okay. Your job is to get back on track as quickly as you can and start building back the momentum that you once had.Â
How to Regain Focus on Your Goals?
Once you realize that you have lost focus on your goals, there are a number of things you can do to get back on track. Just as you have the power to create a goal, you also have the power to rebuild your passion for the goal when it has faded.
Be Kind to Yourself
For many people, the disappointment of losing track of a goal can cause them to lose confidence and give up on the goal altogether. It’s important to realize that most people will slip up here and there, and very few people stay perfectly on track to achieving what they set out to achieve. Be kind to yourself and forgive yourself for the temporary shift.
Review Your Goals
Sometimes a loss of focus can indicate that the goal no longer serves us or that it needs to be readjusted to fit our current life. Take a look at the goals where you have been lagging. Are they still serving you? Do they still resonate with you? Do they still evoke the same emotional response that they once did?Â
If they do, that’s great! If they don’t, take a little time to revise your goals today. Ask yourself how you can make your goals feel good for you again. Sometimes that simple shift can help you regain your focus, passion and forward momentum.
Take a Small Step
Once you have regained clarity on your goals, commit to taking one small step forward. It does not have to be a huge achievement. Any step forward, no matter how small, will help you rebuild the momentum that you once had.Â
For example, if your goal is to get out of credit card debt, make a commitment to make a small payment today. If your goal is to get into better shape, make the commitment to walk outside for 30 minutes today. These small steps realign your energy toward forward progress and help you get back on track.
Set Yourself Up for Success
Good habits and creating the space and time you need are some of the greatest keys to success. This may mean creating a meaningful morning ritual, where you purposefully set the time to focus on your goals, prepare yourself mentally for any challenges you may face and to be kind and thank yourself for the work you have already done.Â
If there are any obvious roadblocks to achieving your goals that have created detours in the past, think about what you could do to remove or reduce those blocks.
Can You Take Action on Your Goals?Â
The first step to regaining focus on your goals is to recognize that you have lost focus in the first place. Thank yourself for taking this step and for having the desire to make a change for your higher good.Â
The guidelines mentioned above will help you get back on track. But most of all, they will encourage you to take action. After all, in order to make forward progress you need to take action.
The small action steps that you take each day will build up and allow you to regain the momentum you once had. We encourage you to read this post and then take action to help you regain focus on your goals and to create the life you want.
